To provide team leadership and direction to non-regulated nursing staff. Deliver Resident Care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) To administer medications and treatments as prescribed and maintain the medication system (including relevant documentation). To collaborate with the Resident, family, physician and Health Care Team regarding the Residents’ condition, plan of care and services required; and to evaluate the effectiveness of the care and services provided. To participate in various teams / committees as required. To participate as a team member in providing Resident centred care and service. Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines and legislation. Participate in in-service educational opportunities. To orientate new staff as required. Maintain awareness (at all times) of emergency procedures; participate in drills and associated educational opportunities. To adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routines and additional practices as required. To be aware of and comply with all Corporate and facility policies and procedures. Confidentiality is of extreme importance and must always be maintained. To perform any other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Experience: Registered Practical Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario (including medication administration course) Over one year up to and including 2 years of previous experience in a long-term care setting an asset Working knowledge of Ministry of Health and Long Term Care standards and guidelines and relevant legislation an asset Courses specific to gerontology and dementia studies an asset Gentle Persuasive Approach Certificate would be considered an asset Supervisory experience an asset Resident Assessment Instrument, Minimum Data Set (RAI MDS) an asset Computer skills – experience with a computerized Resident Documentation system an asset; must be able to apply basic functions of Corporate standard software Skills and Abilities: Proven organizational skills Resident and Customer focus Effective oral and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to facilitate and adapt to changes in the long term care environment Ability to work independently as well as part of a team Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Ability to perform Heimlich Manoeuvre Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Posting #: SEIU 8.26 Position: Registered Practical Nurse Position Code: 7NLRPN Status: Permanent Part Time

Must be a Registered Practical Nurse with a current CNO Certificate of Competence and BCLS certification. Experience in long-term care, gerontology, and dementia studies is considered an asset.
