Assess and modify invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation in accordance with ventilation/weaning guidelines.

Perform airway management including intubation and extubation.

Administer aerosolized medication and/or Meter Dose Inhaler (MDI).

Assess and intervene for patients at high risk for respiratory failure.

Manage tracheostomies.

Conduct home oxygen assessments.

Perform arterial punctures and blood withdrawal from arterial lines.

Insert arterial lines.

Assist with bronchoscopies and percutaneous tracheostomy procedures.

Transport high risk patients intra- and inter-organization.

Provide neonatal management including neonatal resuscitation at high risk deliveries, mechanical ventilation, Nasal CPAP, oxygen therapy, and assistance with airway management

  • Job Title Respiratory Therapist Program & Department Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre -> Allied Health -> Respiratory Therapy Regular / Temporary Temporary Full / Part Time Part-Time Temporary End Date (Anticipated) 05 March 2028 Union ON2 Requisition Close Date FTE .60 Salary Plan / Job Grade $39.66 - $53.28 ( OH_02 ) Job Posting Reason Temporary Backfill Job Summary & Requirements The Allied Health Services (AHS) team, under Professional Practice consists of Regulated Healthcare Professional including: Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Social Work, Registered Dietitians, as well as unregulated Rehabilitation Assistants. Each discipline is focused on driving evidence informed practice to promote high quality patient and family centered care. The team has a professional practice leader (PPL) model for each regulated allied health discipline which promotes and enhances the interprofessional team. Each regulated discipline has their own PPL with dedicated time to enhance their communities of practice, represent their respective disciplines at committees, create policies & procedures, lead corporate level initiatives and drive best practices in the realm of patient care. We are currently recruiting for a Temporary Part Time acute care focused Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to support our acute care areas, including but not limited to ICU, ED, Birthing Unit, Critical Care Unit and Medicine/Surgery units. Education and Experience:
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario

  • Current NRP - required
  • Previous experience in critical care - preferred

Responsibilities

  • Care and management of mechanically ventilated patients

  • Neonatal management, including neonatal resuscitation at high risk deliveries (establishing airway, breathing and circulation), mechanical ventilation, Nasal CPAP, oxygen therapy and assistance of airway management.
