Under the direction of the Coordinator or designate, works within the organization's framework and standards, and a recovery oriented, harm reduction focused model. As a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, the Mental Health and Substance Use Aftercare Clinician provides assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
Baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
Recognized post-basic education related to mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
Two (2) years recent related experience.
Understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, concurrent disorders, acquired brain injury, dual diagnoses, stages of change, and community dynamics.
Proficiency with mental health and substance use assessments, treatment modalities, intervention strategies, and case management.
Familiarity with providing client-centered, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming care and working with marginalized populations.
Knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g., Mental Health and Child Protection legislation).
Knowledge of available programs and services and their interrelationships.
Valid BC Driver’s License.
Demonstrated competence in treatment of addiction and mental illness congruent with Island Health’s framework and standards.
Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Organizational, problem solving, and teaching skills.
Ability to operate a personal computer with Windows-based software and operate related equipment.
