Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient & staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Occupational Therapist works as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing occupational therapy services to Special Population clients residing within the Long-Term Care (LTC) facility, as well as their families and other stakeholders. Provides general Occupational Therapy clinical services to clients with a focus on behavioural strategies and interventions relevant to special populations, such as those with mental health and substance use conditions. Participates in the provision of education to the client, caregiver, service provider, public and other stakeholders related to Special Populations in the LTC environment.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training And Experience Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). One to two years' experience working with Mental Health & Substance Use Services clients. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Skills And Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to network with other services and agencies.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in working with the seriously mentally ill and/or addicted client.
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Ability to operate a computer including related software.

Requirements

Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy.

Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.

Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

1 to 2 years' experience working with Mental Health & Substance Use Services clients (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and work with serious mental illness and/or addicted clients.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to network with other services and agencies.

Ability to write clear, concise reports and operate a computer with related software.

Working knowledge of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Guardianship Act)
