The Pharmacy Assistant performs technical tasks including sterile-preparation compounding, prescription order entry, and billing. They are also responsible for inventory management and preparing infusion and TPN medications following USP 797 guidelines.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, with CCAPP accreditation and aseptic technique training preferred. Knowledge of USP 797 and NAPRA standards is required, along with the ability to perform physical tasks up to 50 lbs.
· Maintain Federal, Provincial, and Local regulations, accrediting body standards, and Bayshore’s Policies and Procedures. · Schedule patient medication orders for preparation and dispensing for repeat medications. · Prepare required infusion supplies for delivery of medication. · Enter prescriptions into the prescription software (Kroll) for filling/billing such prescriptions. · Refill medications through the prescription software (Kroll). · Preparation and labeling of medications as required by law. o Appropriate assembly of drugs and supplies by matching codes and quantities from the compounding document. o Correct labeling of product. o Ensuring compounded products are matched to the right delivery section prior to shipping. · Order, receive and store medications and supplies in the appropriate environment. · Perform physical inventories according to policies and procedures. · Maintain pharmacy records including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records. · Communicate appropriately with clients, their agents, SWHCCSS staff and medical professionals. · Participate in performance improvement and quality assurance activities, education programs, and department/site meetings. · Amalgamating adjacent supply and medication orders · Liaising with the delivery department to ensure delivery due dates are met. · All employees are expected to demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions. · Perform other duties as assigned.
· Completion of High School diploma. · CCAPP (Canadian Council of Accrediting Pharmacy Program) Accreditation as a Dispensary Assistant preferred. · Specialized Aseptic Technique training either on or off-site an asset. · Possesses and maintains relevant knowledge of USP 797 Standards and NAPRA standards. · Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations, meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Concentration is required to perform duties accurately and safely in a high activity environment. · Familiarity with Kroll Dispensing software is an asset. Physical Requirements · Spends the majority of the shift on feet, including standing and walking for extended periods. · Regularly lifts, pushes, pulls, carries, or moves objects of varying weights. · Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. · Performs physical tasks such as bending, twisting, and reaching to move supplies or other items. · Answers phone calls and triages inquiries to the appropriate area. · Interacts regularly with customers, external agencies, healthcare providers, and team members. · Communicates through a variety of methods, including phone, in-person, and electronic channels. Work Environment · Works primarily in pharmacy and clean room settings. Required to be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
