Provides nursing services for ambulatory and critically ill patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Collaborates with an integrated care team to ensure patient safety, comfort, and quality of care during procedures.
Requires current registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM and post-basic education in gastroenterology or equivalent experience. Must possess broad knowledge of GI anatomy, pharmacology related to sedation, and the ability to manage IV therapy.
Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of recognized post-basic education in gastroenterology/GI endoscopy nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.Broad knowledge of Gastrointestinal (GI) anatomy and physiology.General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction approach and Strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.Broad knowledge of pharmacology, and patient physiological reactions, related to conscious sedation.Broad knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in an endoscopy environment.Demonstrated ability in the initiation and management of IV therapy and administration of IV medications.Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses during procedure and to respond appropriately.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and effectively deal with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care workers.Demonstrated skill in procedural sedation and analgesia.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Demonstrated skill in the use of and set up of endoscopy equipment.Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a fast paced, high volume procedure environment. Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
