Job description

Description JOB SUMMARY

Within the context of a patient/client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, performs clinical audiology services including screening, assessment, diagnosis, monitoring, hearing equipment fitting, consultation, and documentation with infants and children 0-19 years of age and some special needs adults who are suspected of having a hearing disorder. Prescribes and fits personal amplification including hearing aids according to age-appropriate evidence-based protocols.This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Current full registration as an Audiologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). One (1) year recent related experience that includes working with children with or suspected of having hearing disorders or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Eligibility for registration as a Hearing Instrument Practitioner, as required. Valid BC Driver’s License; local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle, and will be noted on the posting.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of normal development processes of speech, language and hearing and their application in a preventative health program.Thorough knowledge of the by-laws and other governmental regulations pertaining to public health.Comprehensive knowledge of equipment and materials used in the assessment and intervention / treatment of hearing disorders.Knowledge and experience in providing culturally safe and competent care.Knowledge and training of Indigenous Cultural safety and experience providing culturally safe care to Indigenous people, families, and communities. Knowledge and ability to utilize principles of trauma and violence informed practice.Knowledge and ability to utilize a Harm Reduction approach to care.Comprehensive knowledge of determinants of health impacting relevant populations.Basic knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare, in a Public Health context.Demonstrated ability to follow evidence-based protocols in clinical assessment and intervention / treatment of hearing disorders.Demonstrated ability to gather relevant data and make a multi-dimensional assessment.Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret audiology assessments.Demonstrated ability to promote communication leading to a cooperative approach to problem solving within an interdisciplinary setting within a Public Health context.Demonstrated ability to apply systems theory to practice in audiology assessment and intervention.Demonstrated ability to draw out and respect information that will contribute to understanding the clients’ situation.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing with clients, families, staff and community agency personnel.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to problem solve, organize and prioritize workGeneral knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
