The early Visiting Program Public Health Nurse (EVP-PHN) works under the direction of the Manager of Public Health Nursing. As an integral member of the Public Health Services team, provides nursing services within the framework of the Population Health Promotion Model. This employee works relatively independently and is expected to make primary decisions based on sound assessments in accordance with the Public Health Act, the policies of the Public Health Nursing program, the SRNA Standards of Practice, the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice, the Public Health Nursing Discipline Specific Competencies and other relevant legislation. Inherent in this role are the knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, primary and secondary prevention strategies and protection. Public Health Nurses translate knowledge from the health and social sciences to support health programs and advocacy. This employee liaises with, and refers to, other health personnel, and other sectors and community groups.
