$54,600 to $58,343.52 annually (37.5 hours per week) New Vacancy The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) will provide a wide range of programming services including traditional healing, primary care, health promotion, chronic disease management, family-focused maternal/child health care, mental wellness care, diabetes care, and a culturally integrated licensed day care facility. All of the programs are to be delivered in a culturally safe manner to the local urban Indigenous population in addition to our partner First Nations, Nipissing, Temagami and Dokis First Nations. This Indigenous Primary Health Care team seeks a motivated, self-starter who is passionate about positive health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.
Under the direction of the Director of Indigenous Primary Care the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH), this position will be responsible to assist in the delivery of culturally competent and safe health and patient care management focusing on the RPN’s scope of practice in a clinic setting as part of an inter-professional team at the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH).
Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous culture, traditions and language are considered assets; Successful completion of a recognized Practical Nursing program and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse Knowledge of cultural teachings, history of Indigenous people, and Indigenous Social Determinants of Health Ability to communicate and collaborate with clients, professionals, community partners and stakeholders; Superior conflict managements and negotiation skills; Demonstrated effective written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills; Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention strategies; Excellent assessment skills; Knowledge of reportable diseases, the process and how to counsel patients; Ability to interpret and evaluate information to make appropriate clinical decisions; Excellent time management and organization skills to respond to fluctuating workload demands and respond immediately to crisis; Ability to use both computer hardware and various software programs for recording documentation and maintain accurate and up-to-date automated documentation on case files; The ability to maintain confidentiality and ethics and thorough knowledge of PHIPA; Appreciation for the diversity of services offered at the Hub including traditional healing and mainstream services; Ability and willingness to work independently and co-operatively as an integral member of a primary health care team; Current First Aid/CPR, WHMIS certification Prior work-related experience in a primary care practice clinic an asset; Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if necessary; Must have own reliable vehicle and have the ability to travel as required; and Other related duties.
INCLUDE: Conducting brief patient interviews and taking medical histories; Performing duties within the scope of practice of the RPN including but not limited to: Immunizations and monitoring of fridge/supplies Vitals assessment Autoclave management Assisting in clinic procedures Ordering of medical supplies Stock supplies and discard expired supplies Clean up of exam rooms Wound care, dressing changes/applications, suture/staple removal as needed; Identifying patients in need of immediate assessment/assistance and collaborating with appropriate primary care staff; Consulting and collaborating with other professional staff concerning clinical issues; Providing training and functional guidance to professional staff and others; Participating in the development, implementations and evaluation of policies, procedures and protocols to ensure comprehensive and consistent delivery of excellent client care; Participating in developing health care plans appropriate to client needs; Ensuring proper monitoring/follow up care with clients; Promoting and evaluating services provided and modifying as necessary; Working collaboratively with health care providers in providing excellent client care using evidence-based practice; Participating in appropriate staff development activities and sharing learning with other members of the health care team; Maintaining clinical knowledge through continuing educational endeavors; Respond to phone calls when necessary; Schedule appointments with patients; and Must be willing to travel to our partner First Nations and have a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
