minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.
In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses, Code of Ethics and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of Vancouver Coastal Health, provides nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of a interdisciplinary team.
Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care givers.
Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
Maintains and advances clinical competence.
Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
About the Richmond Hospital Emergency Department Our ED sees over 70,000 patients a year, servicing Richmond and the lower half of Vancouver.
With 125 patient care spaces, the ED is divided into triage, acute care, DTU, pediatrics, and lower-acuity zones.
Richmond Hospital ED offers a unique practice, from birth to end of life services, walk-in traumas, stabilization and transfers, and much more.
Teamwork and support are at the forefront of the Richmond Hospital ED.

The leadership team is very present and available 24/7, with a Clinical Resource Nurse and Head Nurse on shift every day of the week.
Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or two years' recent, related critical care experience. Knowledge & Abilities Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centred model of care. Broad knowledge BCCNM standards for nursing practice. Thorough knowledge of the indications, actions, reactions, routes, dosages, and side effects of anaesthetic and other drugs used in critical care environment. Thorough knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in a critical care environment. Thorough knowledge of the physiological and behavioural aspects of complex critical illnesses. Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
