Provide in-home support to residents in a semi-independent living environment to facilitate recovery from mental illness and addictions. Responsibilities include teaching daily life skills, facilitating resident meetings, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Requires a college/university education or a high school diploma with relevant experience in mental health and substance use. Candidates must possess a valid Ontario G/G2 driver's license and a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.
Permanent Base office: Parry Sound (Road to Recovery Home) Competition #: 36-26 Purpose of the Position: The Residential Support Worker is part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for providing in-home support to residents within a semi-independent congregate living environment. Residential Support Workers facilitate recovery and improved quality of life in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner. Residential Support Workers help residents address needs associated with mental illness, addictions, and life skills. What You Will Do: Support residents in achieving identified goals that align with their personal goals and values Teach and promote skill development and meaningful daily activities such as: Menu planning, shopping, cooking Housekeeping, budgeting, etc. Planning and attending leisure, recreational, and community activities Facilitate monthly resident meetings Collaborate and work alongside R2R team Be an attentive listener using empathy, compassion and understanding of residents' needs Provide transportation as required Education and Qualifications: Achieve a level of education and/or experience as follows: A suitable level of education achieved through community college, university, or A secondary school diploma and at least six (6) months of relevant experience working with people diagnosed with mental health & substance use concerns; or At least two (2) years relevant experience working with people diagnosed with mental health and addiction issues; and Experience working within a congregate living environment is an asset. Experience working with a multidisciplinary healthcare team is an asset. An understanding of mental illnesses, substance use, addictions, psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery, and various types of medication. An understanding of fire and safety Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Indigenous Cultural awareness and education are assets. Bilingual in French is an asset. Tolerance of and ability to handle a heavy workload, competing demands, and high-risk situations. Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment in a rural setting Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, and data management software A willingness to serve clients within the communities of the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license, a safe and reliable means of transportation, and appropriate insurance for work purposes on your vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage. Bilingual in French/English language considered an asset Work schedule may include days/evenings/weekends and statutory holidays. Salary scale: $25.26 to $28.98 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
