In an environment that supports continuous improvement and under the management and supervision of the Communicable Diseases/Sexual Health Program Nursing Manager and Supervisor, the employee in this position provides investigation and the related follow-up of reportable and non reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted disease, on a day-to-day basis. Work load is variable and the ability to prioritize is an important aspect of the position. This employee provides HIV counseling and point of care and anonymous HIV testing for clients requesting this service. This employee examines patients for sexually transmitted disease and ensures that necessary examination and treatments are carried out. This employee provides family planning information and counseling, and under the direction of the physician/nurse practitioner, will provide specifically selected contraceptive supplies. This employee assists with liaison and referrals to other health personnel and agencies. Other duties include harm reduction services, the promotion of educational programs for the public and other professionals and providing immunization. The nature of the work requires a high degree of confidentially and tact. Duties also include responsibility for recording.
