Provide residential support to Safe Beds clients by developing mental health and housing goals and facilitating life skills development. Manage client admissions, monitor safety, and connect individuals to community resources for long-term recovery.
Requires a two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field such as Recreation Therapy or Developmental Service Work and one year of relevant experience with mental health clients. Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License, a reliable vehicle, and pass a police vulnerable sector check.
Under the direction of the Safe Beds Program Supervisor, or designate, the Residential Support Worker will provide support to develop mental health and housing related goals, develop life skills, and provide residential support to the Safe Beds clients of CMHA-WECB. The incumbent will assess for program eligibility in person and over the phone, complete the necessary documentation to admit clients into the program, assist and support clients to identify the necessary goals to continue on a recovery path, provide support to access safer housing, and connect to appropriate resources to continue support past Safe Beds.
Responsibilities: & DUTIES: The Residential Support Worker will be responsible for:
1. Admission to Safe Beds Liaise with police to assess and admit appropriate clients for residential support in accordance with Safe Beds guidelines. Orient clients to the program. Monitor clients while in residential care to ensure safety.
2. Goal Plan Development In collaboration with the client, develop a goal plan relating to mental health, housing, and activities of daily living. Supporting clients in following through the steps of their goal plan. Making appropriate community referrals to continue client support past Safe Beds.
4. Community Development Keeping abreast of resources in the community. Maintaining professional contact with commonly accessed organizations so that purposeful interaction on behalf of clients can be effectively accomplished. Reducing stigma by actively working towards overcoming barriers to community integration.
5. Program Evaluation and Development Identifying gaps, interruptions or disruptions in services. Assessing client program satisfaction. Determining efficacy of formal services and informal support. Actively participating in improving the quality of programs and service delivery.
6. Develops Educational Programs relevant to client group. Organizing and conducting life skills training groups for clients at varied locations. Obtaining and developing resources for delivery. Evaluating effectiveness of activities and sessions.
8. Ensures all file management and reporting functions are maintained in a comprehensive and timely manner. Ensuring all client contact is recorded appropriately. Ensuring that monthly, annual, and other required reporting documentation are completed.
Requires knowledge and skills acquired through completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant discipline accepted by the employer such as Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapist Assistant or Developmental Service Worker. Life Skills certification would be considered an asset. One year recent and relevant experience, in the judgement of the employer, working with individuals experiencing mental health concerns and providing assistance in goal planning, skill development, and community referrals. Comprehensive knowledge of mental illnesses, signs and symptoms, as well as planning and organizational skills. Strong assessment skills. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, public, professionals and staff both in written and oral form. Ability to write clearly and to effectively present ideas and document activities; demonstrates the ability to read and interpret written information. Demonstrated ability to communicate with others in a respectful and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport. Demonstrates good organizational skills required for tracking multiple issues/tasks in a wide array of situations. Skilled in developing materials and facilitating groups. Computer literacy skills and working knowledge of various Microsoft Windows application is required. Bilingualism in both official languages at the advanced level is considered an asset. A valid Ontario Driver's License with access to a reliable vehicle and proof of current insurance and licensing are required for this position.
Grade 6, $31.44 – $37.20 per hour Per 2022 - 2026 Collective Agreement Applicable shift premiums are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement, Article 17.11.
