FIHHSA Navigational Support Worker

Position summary

Reporting to the Mental Health Program Manger, the Navigational Support Worker will provide support regarding “Federal Indian Hospitals (Hardy) Settlement Agreement”. This position will provide emotional and cultural support services to class members throughout the process of the Settlement Agreement. The program includes culturally appropriate and trauma-informed care to counsel individuals, families, and groups, or engage in prevention programs.

Responsibilities

• The Navigational Support Worker will be responsible for providing support to those that have been affected and are applying for “The First Nation Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Class Settlement”.
• Providing presentations, and workshops regarding the settlement process;
• Provide Emotional Support during the claims process;
• Provide referrals to community resources such as Elders, healers, addiction support, and mental health support;
• Identify gaps in current services and advocate on behalf of class member whenever necessary;
• Meet with class member in a variety of settings to support the client in accessing services;
• Foster cultural connections in all stages of the process.
• Supporting and helping to prepare class members during all stages of their claims process.
• Complete outreach work at urban and community events;
• Prepare monthly reports and statistics for supervisor;
• Completing required reports and data collection;
• Participate in STC Accreditation maintaining best practices and quality improvement;
• Participating and completing required education and training;
• Maintain files and documentation at an excellent standard;
• Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as-required basis.

Education and experience

• Post-secondary education a related human services field; and
• Minimum 2 years of directly related work experience; OR
• Comparable combination of education and work experience;
