What we are looking for: In this position you will provide support in the Operating Room, PACU and the Surgical Admission and Discharge Unit. In this role, you will interact with staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and families in the Surgical Admission and Discharge Unit and the Operating Room. The successful candidate will be responsible for clerical, reception, payroll, supply ordering and project work within the duties or a unit secretary.
The clerical aspect of the role includes: entering pre and postoperative patient information, scheduling OR procedures, entering physician orders, filing, photocopying, ordering supplies, completing home care requisitions, scheduling post-surgical clinic appointments and performing special projects as requested.
The receptionist aspect of the role includes: receiving visitors, patients and/or organization personnel, answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel.
What you bring to the role: Previous Unit Secretary / Medical clerical experience is essential Experience within Perioperative settings and knowledge of surgical program Required Experience with supporting the Operating Room functionality required Medical terminology is essential Word processing / typing skills (40 wpm) Previous experience with Meditech Ability to multi-task assigned duties is essential Ability to function within a fast paced environment Good computer skill and good knowledge of Excel program Able to cope with stressful situations and be a support in emergencies is essential Ability to prioritize and act quickly in emergencies Demonstrated production of quality work, focus on detail Able to function independently and within a high functioning team Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as an inter-professional team member Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Evenings 15:00-23:00 Monday to Fridays, Weekends and Stat Holidays Please note schedules may change due to operational needs.
