Until Filled Reporting to the Youth Mental Health Program Manager, the Clinical Counsellor provides clinical oversight, guidance, and therapeutic support within the Youth Mental Health Peer Supporter Program. This role ensures that peer support services are delivered ethically, safely, and effectively, while promoting youth empowerment, resilience, and independence. The Clinical Counsellor supports both program participants (youth) and peer supporters through supervision, consultation, and direct intervention when required. Roles and Responsibilities: Provide short-term, solution-focused counselling to youth participants as appropriate Conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis intervention when needed Support referrals to external mental health and community services Ensure services align with trauma-informed, youth-centered, and strengths-based practices Provide clinical supervision and guidance to youth peer supporters Assist in developing boundaries, ethical decision-making, and role clarity for peer workers Support peer supporters in managing complex or high-risk situations Facilitate debriefing sessions following critical incidents Work collaboratively with internal staff, community partners, and service providers Participate in case conferencing and multidisciplinary team meetings as required Maintain strong knowledge of local mental health resources and referral pathways Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with professional standards Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, legislation, and organizational policies Contribute to program evaluation and reporting as required Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field Registration (or eligibility for registration) with a recognized regulatory body Experience working with youth and/or young adult, especially newcomer population Experience with crisis intervention, risk assessment, and trauma-informed care Experience supporting or supervising peer support models is considered an asset Strong clinical judgment and ethical decision-making skills Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment Cultural competence and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Legal authorization to work in Canada Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm) Valid class 5 NL driver’s license and daily access to a personal vehicle is required Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
