As a Veterinary Assistant at Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic & Emergency Service (CTVRC/EC) , you'll support our Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Emergency & Critical Care teams in delivering high-level care. You’ll be an essential part of our patient care flow — whether you're preparing an ER tray, comforting a hospitalized patient, or keeping our clinic running smoothly.
Compensation
$20–$22/hour, based on experience, knowledge, and skill set
Overnight Premium: $3/hour (7:00pm–7:00am)
Weekend Premium: $2/hour (7:00am–7:00pm)

Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians and technicians with diagnostic procedures, treatments, and patient care
Prepare patients and equipment for procedures including Fine Needle Aspirates, Tru-Cut Biopsies, and surgical anesthetic setups
Provide safe, compassionate animal restraint during examinations and treatments
Support surgical teams during procedures including fracture repairs, mass removals, and other advanced surgeries

Monitor patient comfort and maintain clean, comfortable hospitalization areas
Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment using proper aseptic techniques

Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to provide high-quality patient care
Qualifications
High school diploma required; post-secondary Animal Care program preferred
Minimum 1 year of hands-on animal care experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, wildlife center, or similar environment
Comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency and specialty hospital setting
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
Compassionate, professional, and patient-focused approach to animal care
Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments
Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
