The Peer Support Worker provides non-judgmental, trauma-informed support and referrals to women and girls accessing the Centre. They also coach volunteers and maintain statistics to foster a safe, empowering community environment.
Requires a diploma or degree in Social Work (or equivalent experience) and at least 2 years of experience in a community-based setting. Candidates must possess crisis management skills and pass a criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND The Women’s Centre of Calgary is a community organization that provides a safe and supportive space accessed by thousands of women and girls in Calgary. Our mission is to be every woman’s place for support, connections, and community. Specifically, we connect with women looking for assistance, for opportunities to connect and/or for ways to affect change in their community.
POSITION OVERVIEW Working collaboratively with other program team members and volunteers, the Peer Support Worker engages women accessing the Centre in a non-judgmental and strengths-based manner. The Peer Support Worker connects women with information, referrals, and support to meet a variety of needs, questions, and concerns. Using effective communication skills, the Peer Support Worker creates a safe and trauma-informed environment that supports resilience, empowerment, and meaningful connection with others. This position nurtures community-building in all aspects of their work.
WORKING CONDITIONS The Women’s Centre is a storefront community center operating in an open environment. This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires some evening work.
