The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and performing procedures to manage illnesses and chronic conditions. They also engage in community needs assessments and collaborate with inter-professional teams to improve health outcomes.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner degree, along with five years of relevant experience. An Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate and registration with the CRNS are also required.

The Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with their legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of illnesses and stable chronic conditions. The practice involves working within the nursing program objectives, guidelines, and policies and procedures; building partnerships, completing community needs assessments; supporting inter-professional collaboration; and participating in continuous improvements through evaluative processes/projects.
