Position Summary

We are currently seeking a casual Life Skills Support Worker to join our Mental Health (MH) team at McKim Cottage in Nelson, B.C.

This position is a member of a multi-disciplinary Mental Health and Addictions Team providing a comprehensive array of services within a psycho-social rehabilitation framework to adults with serious and persistent mental illness and/or within a harm reduction framework for those with substance use problems/disorders and who experience severe challenges in daily living as a result. This position will provide these services offering a variety of rehabilitative and treatment modalities inclusive of outreach, community and facility care. Some of the Life Skills Support Worker typical duties are to provide direct care such as supportive counseling, risk assessment and crisis intervention for individuals or groups who experience severe challenges in daily living as a result of their mental illness and/or substance use problems/disorders. As well as participates in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of a treatment plan via an outreach methodology for assigned clients. Participates in team clinical reviews and consultation, psychiatric reviews and the monitoring of clients and performs other related duties as required. Scheduling Information: Shift types are days, evenings and nights. Shift times are from 07:00 to 16:00, 11:00 to 21:00, 21:00 to 07:00 hours. This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week.   • Mental Health Worker Certificate or Human Services Worker Certificate or Addictions Worker Certification
  • Two years recent related experience working with individuals living with mental illness, and/or substance use problems/disorders; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
  • Standard First Aid with CPR
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • Current valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5) As part of your application, please ensure to:

Requirements

Mental Health Worker Certificate or Human Services Worker Certificate or Addictions Worker Certification.

Two years recent related experience working with individuals with mental illness or substance use problems.

Food Safe Level 1 Certificate.

Standard First Aid with CPR.

Non-violent crisis intervention training.

Current valid B.C.

Driver’s License (Class 5)
