The Detox Worker provides assessment, monitoring, and referral services for chemically dependent adults and youth at the Detox Centre. Additionally, they provide care and supervision for intoxicated individuals within a police holding unit.
Candidates must have graduated from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program and possess two years of related experience. Proficiency in substance abuse assessment, counseling, and the ability to lead discussion groups is required.
Education, Training & Experience Graduation from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program plus two (2) years' related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Second language requirements will be noted on posting, if required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Sound knowledge of the principles and practices related to the assessment and care of chemically dependent adults and youth. Proven counseling skills. Ability to assess, supervise and monitor chemically dependent adults and youth. Ability to present educational materials and lead discussion groups related to substance abuse. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to work independently with minimal direction, to take initiative, to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other employees, to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and staff from other agencies, to maintain confidentiality and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to carry out the physical demands of the job. Closing Statement The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
