About the role

The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care, including accurate documentation of assessments across physical, psychological, and social dimensions, and initiates care plans in communication with allied providers. Responsibilities also include assuming the role of charge nurse, participating in quality improvement activities, and serving as a resource person for staff orientation and teaching.

Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.

Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans.

Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.

Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.

Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).

Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.

Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.

Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.

Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.

Assesses personal learning development needs.

Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities.

Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.

Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.

Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.

Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Basic Life Support Certification required and must maintain certification.

ACLS Certification required and must maintain certification.

Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam.

Successful passage of the Basic Arrhythmia Program or challenge exam.

Must read, write and communicate in English.

PALS Certification within six (6) months of position and must maintain certification.

BSN Preferred.

Demonstrated skills in I.V. starts, hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator care, required.

One (1) year (within the last five (5) years) recent experience required in ICU/CVICU/CVPA/ER or SDC/PACU.

Prior SDC or PACU experience preferred (within the last 5 years).

On-call is required for off-shift, weekends and holidays.

Requirements

Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and hold a current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts, along with required certifications including BLS and ACLS, and successful passage of specific pharmacology and arrhythmia exams. Required clinical skills include I.V. starts, hemodynamic monitoring, and ventilator care, along with at least one year of recent experience in ICU, CVICU, CVPA, ER, SDC, or PACU.
