Position Summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Medical Laboratory Department at Kootenay Lake Regional Hospital in Nelson, BC.   • Competitive wages About the Job The Medical Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties within the Laboratory such as taking blood samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. They shall also perform ECG testing as required. This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent and temporary positions. There are many opportunities with Interior Health that begin with casual employment and lead to regular employment. Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days and evenings. Qualfications
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Canadian Driver’s License as required by position
  • Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*

Grade 12. successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program. plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Canadian Driver’s License as required by position. Ability to type 25 WPM with a 5-minute invigilated typing test
