The Physiotherapist will assess and document clients' physical needs, develop and implement treatment interventions, and ensure adherence to professional regulations and organizational values. This includes providing training to caregivers, coordinating the provision and maintenance of special devices, and monitoring clinical outcomes.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited physiotherapy program and maintain licensure with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba, with experience in developmental disabilities or neurology being an asset. Essential personal attributes include strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Education and Professional: Graduate of an accredited university program in Physiotherapy Possess and maintains licensure with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba and is a member in good standing Member of or eligible for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Clinical: Experience in the area of developmental disabilities or a background in neurology is an asset Experience in the provision of special devices, especially in seating and mobility is an asset Knowledgeable of the history of service to people with disabilities, current trends, philosophies and practices concerning care, education and lifestyles Ability to understand, support and practice interdisciplinary teamwork in order to provide service in the clinical, educational or living environments of the person with a developmental disability Ability to manage and define a service plan with individual and care givers Knowledge of direct, mediated, and consultative models of practice and ability to apply these according to program protocol Understand own clinical limitations and seek support and consultation for clinical activities so as to do “no harm” Prioritize, structure, and manage scheduling caseload(s) effectively to achieve targeted outcomes Personal: Able to identify high risk situations and respond appropriately Able to demonstrate behavior consistent with the Mission and Values of St.Amant Excellent written and verbal skills Able to conceptualize and implement innovative/creative responses to client needs within available resources Ability to provide education and training in public forums Knowledgeable of the concepts of Quality Improvement (QI) and ability to implement services consistent with those concepts in a complex environment Positive, energetic, self-directed and client focused Ability to serve as a model in cooperative teamwork, conflict resolution and process improvement Ability to work harmoniously and contribute to effective employee relationships Ability to travel and work flexible hours as necessary Possess a valid Manitoba driver’s license and a vehicle Successful completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Abuse Registry check and Prior Contact Check is required Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment Possess emotional stability Project a professional image Possess the physical ability to perform the duties of the position
Clinical Care Management: The Physiotherapist will develop and implement a plan for services while ensuring adherence to St.Amant Mission and Values, policies and professional regulations. Duties include: Assesses and documents the clients’ physical needs and abilities; develops and implements appropriate treatment interventions Integrates treatment goals and interventions that align with educational / vocational programming and the home living environments Provides necessary demonstration and training to individuals and care givers who will be carrying out gross motor or other Physiotherapy related activities Ensures the provision of special devices and orthotic equipment by working in consultation with funding agencies, commercial dealers, rehabilitation engineers and orthotics as required Provides for the maintenance and modification of special devices by monitoring equipment and working with the special devices technician or eternal service providers Provides assessment and follows up on orthopedic problems by regularly monitoring and recommending referral to orthopedic specialists as indicated. Develops and monitors clinical programs Ensures the involvement of an individual’s support network including direct care givers and family members (where applicable) in the assessment and intervention process Ensures there is appropriate consent related to intervention and exchange of information and reviews this regularly Ensures that a service plan and timelines are specified for the intervention / transition process Consults effectively with other supports and services to ensure coordination of planning Documents and maintains client files in a format consistent with program protocol and timelines Ensures clinical outcomes are monitored, documented and shared Reports and documents all high risk or potentially high-risk situation according to Policy Evaluates new products and equipment to meet client specific needs Develops or constructs material for client use or supervise a Clinical Assistant or Technician (where applicable) assigned to this function Develops clinical specialties/competencies in accordance with priority needs of the clients Incorporates a research informed approach towards the delivery of service The above information is intended to describe the general nature of this position and is not considered to be a complete statement of duties and responsibilities.
